1335 ~ Blue Hopi
90-100 Days. Renowned for its sweet and distinctive blue cornmeal, Hopi Blue Corn is also divine eaten fresh in the early stages of its growth. This native blue corn offers today's gardener the experience of tasting what true corn is like. In the "milk" stage, ears are delicious served lightly steamed or boiled and brushed with melted butter. We love them grilled with other Heirloom vegetables such as our cocozelle squash. Hopi blue Corn grows up to 10' feet tall under ideal conditions and the particularly long (up to 1') ears have satiny blue-black kernels in the late fall, uniquely beautiful as an ornamental.
1336 ~ Strawberry Popcorn
Small red strawberry-colored and shaped ears are good for popping and gorgeous for fall decorations. Heirloom strain, 2-4 ears per stalk, 5-6' tall.
1337 ~ Wampum
95 Days. Earlier version of Carousel type ornamental with ears 4-5 inches long, 16-20 rows of small to very small kernels, colors include many shades of yellow gold white pink red blue black and purple, much color variation on a single ear, husk color is both maroon and white.
1338 - Golden Bantam
78 Days.Introduced in 1902. A farmer named William Chambers of Greenfield, Massachusetts had grown this variety for years. After his death, a friend of Chambers found some of the sweet corn seeds and sold them to W. Atlee Burpee.
In 1902, Golden Bantam was featured in a Burpee catalog. Before 1900 most people thought that yellow corn was fit only for animal feed. Within a few years, people in the United States began to favor yellow corn.
The plants grow to about six feet and produce seven inch ears loaded with sweet, plump, golden kernels.
1336 ~ Bloody Butcher
120 Days. Bloody Butcher has been grown in the United States since the 1800's . It is a bloody red corn, it was a mixture of Native American corn with the white settlers' seeds. The stalks reach ten to twelve feet tall with two to six ears of corn per stalk.
