3200 ~ CRANE MELONS
Crane melons are a melon-cantaloupe cross. It's a thick-skinned, teardrop-shaped, hold-it-in-the-palm-of-your-hand melon. This variety is exceptionally juicy and flavorful, but very hard to find outside of Sonoma County, California due to its rather fragile composition. In the 1920s, Oliver Crane planted a Japanese melon that had a reputation for growing well, unirrigated, in the adobe soils common in the Santa Rosa area. Four generations of the Crane family have raised these melons.

70-85 Days.Named for the Swedish opera singer, this melon was once one of the leading early green-fleshed varieties for home and market.
The 'Jenny Lind' is a smallish melon that averaged about a pound and a half, give or take a few ounces each way. Rather than being rounded like most melons, it was shaped like a slightly flattened globe. It had moderately prominent ribs, sparse netting, and a more or less prominent "button" on the blossom end.

85 Days. One story, which is well known in the vegetable seed world, states that the Rocky Ford Honeydew Melon was developed by a J.W. Eastwood of Rocky Ford, Colorado in 1881. 83 Days This heirloom melon was in its prime from the late 19th century until World War II, it was one of the most popular varieties of melon on the east coast. The fruit is large round, netted flattened at the ends, deeply ribbed, with a thin rind. Its flesh is light green, almost melting in the mouth when eaten. The spicy flavor is reminiscent of nutmeg.
